Decoding EPA eGRID Baselines for Corporate Reporting Context
EPA’s public electricity data and emission-factor resources can inform methodology review, while a client-facing estimate must remain tied to an approved version, period, evidence status, and scope.
An eGRID-aligned estimate is a calculated, source-referenced metric—not an offset, certification, independently assured result, or substitute for an organization’s own reporting judgment.
Understand the source layer
EPA describes eGRID as a comprehensive source of environmental characteristics of almost all U.S. electric power generation, including emissions, emission rates, generation, heat input, and resource-mix attributes. EPA’s GHG Emission Factors Hub also provides regularly updated default factors for organizational greenhouse-gas reporting and identifies eGRID among its key sources.
Keep factors versioned and reviewable
Source material becomes useful in a corporate workflow only when the applicable factor, version, source, grid region, reporting period, evidence state, and methodology state are visible to the reviewer. PDR’s client-safe ledger path exposes only an approved, read-only summary after its separate review gates are met.
Do not infer more than the record supports
An estimated avoided-emissions metric is not a verified offset, a certification, a project-performance guarantee, or a public claim by itself. Raw telemetry, location information, protected operations, and restricted operational details are intentionally excluded from client and magazine outputs.

Frequently asked questions
Does the magazine determine a company’s tax treatment?
No. The magazine provides general workflow and source-context information. A company should obtain advice from its own qualified tax and accounting professionals before relying on a classification or filing position.
Does an estimated avoided-emissions metric represent a verified offset?
No. A PDR client-visible metric is a calculated estimate available only when the relevant methodology and review gates permit it. It is not an independently verified offset, certification, or assurance conclusion.
Does the magazine disclose operational locations or raw telemetry?
No. The magazine and public client experience intentionally omit protected operational references, location data, raw telemetry, and restricted operational details.
